Saint Genevieve is a revered figure in Christianity, especially among Catholics. She was born around 422 in Nanterre, a small village outside Paris, France, and passed away around 512 AD in Paris. Although many stories about her life have been passed down, it’s challenging to differentiate fact from legend due to the lack of historical records.

St. Genevieve often credited with numerous miracles and acts of intercession, which include preventing Attila the Hun from invading Paris in 451 AD. According to the tales, St. Genevieve encouraged the people of Paris to pray, fast, and perform penance, assuring them that their city would protected by God. As it happened, Attila and his forces diverted their path and Paris spared, an event that credited to St. Genevieve’s faith and the power of prayer.

Even though she not officially recognized as the patron saint against war by the Catholic Church, her role in saving Paris from Attila’s invasion a clear demonstration of her association with the protection against war and calamities.

She canonized and her feast day observed on January 3rd. She the patron saint of Paris, and her intercession sought for protection against disasters. Fever, and for the wellbeing of the city.

Her symbol a loaf of bread because she also known for her charity and dedication to the poor. Often giving away her own food to those in need. This also aligns with one of her famous miracles where, during a famine in France. She said to have prayed and a ship loaded with grain appeared on the Seine.

In terms of iconography, she often depicted holding a candle. Which relates to another miracle story in which the devil blew out her candle and an angel relit it.
