Oil Dedicated to St Rita of Cascia (Patron for Broken Families)
Saint Rita of Cascia is the patron saint of broken families and impossible causes. She was born in Italy in 1381 and lived a life filled with challenges. As a young girl, Rita wanted to become a nun, but her parents arranged for her to marry instead. Her husband was a difficult and violent man, but Rita remained patient and kind, praying for him daily. Over time, he changed and became a better person, but he was later killed by enemies.
Rita also faced heartbreak when her two sons wanted to take revenge for their father’s death. She prayed deeply for them, asking God to guide them away from violence. Both sons died young, but Rita believed they were saved from committing sin.
After her family’s deaths, Rita joined a convent, dedicating her life to God. She became known for her deep faith and prayer. Toward the end of her life, she experienced the stigmata—a wound on her forehead resembling a thorn from Christ’s crown.
Saint Rita is the patron of broken families because of the struggles she faced in her own family and her ability to bring peace through prayer. People turn to her for help when facing family problems, asking for her intercession to restore love and harmony.
Her feast day is celebrated on May 22. Saint Rita’s story shows us the power of forgiveness, prayer, and faith, even in the most difficult situations. She gives hope to those who feel their problems are impossible to solve.
