Blessed Anna Rosa Gattorno, born in 1831 in Genoa, Italy, lived a life marked by profound faith, personal suffering, and boundless compassion for the poor and sick. Raised in a devout Catholic family, Anna Rosa married and lived a joyful family life until sudden tragedy struck. The early death of her beloved husband left her a young widow with three children, one of whom was deaf. Instead of falling into despair, she turned her sorrow into an offering of love and service.

Moved by the suffering she saw around her, Anna Rosa dedicated her life entirely to God and to caring for the most vulnerable. In 1866, she founded the Congregation of the Daughters of Saint Anne, Servants of the Poor, a religious community committed to caring for the sick, orphans, and the elderly, providing both physical aid and spiritual comfort. Her work reached countless souls across Italy and beyond, embodying the tenderness of God’s love for the forgotten.

Despite her suffering, Anna Rosa radiated peace and joy. She trusted in Divine Providence to provide for her congregation’s needs, teaching her sisters to walk in faith, humility, and charity. Her gentle but firm leadership inspired many to devote their lives to God’s service, and her legacy of compassion continues through the work of her daughters today.
