Oil Dedicated to Blessed Gandolphus of Binasco
Blessed Gandolphus of Binasco was a man of noble birth who traded earthly riches for the lasting treasure of Christ. Born in the 12th century in Binasco, Italy, Gandolphus was destined for worldly success. But a longing for a deeper, eternal purpose stirred his heart. Turning away from his family’s wealth and social standing, he embraced the simplicity and austerity of religious life as a Franciscan friar, following in the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi.
Desiring to imitate the poverty and humility of Christ, Blessed Gandolphus left his homeland and traveled to Sicily, where he dedicated his life to preaching the Gospel and living in prayerful solitude. He spent much of his life as a hermit, dwelling in silence and communion with God. In this hidden life, his heart burned with love for the Lord and for souls. His sermons, when he emerged from solitude, were filled with power and simplicity, touching the hearts of common folk and nobles alike.
Though little may be widely written about his deeds, his holy life bore much fruit in the souls he encountered. After his death, his sanctity was affirmed not only by the testimony of those who knew him but also by the enduring devotion of the faithful. His memory continues to inspire those called to a life of prayer, solitude, and humble preaching.
