Oil Dedicated to Martyrs of Compiegne
Witnesses of Courage, Victims of the French Revolution, and Models of Peace in the Face of Death
The Martyrs of Compiègne were a community of sixteen Carmelite nuns who, in the midst of the French Revolution’s violent persecution of the Church, offered their lives for peace and the preservation of the faith. Arrested in 1794 during the Reign of Terror, these brave women were condemned simply for living their religious vocation in defiance of revolutionary atheism.
Despite facing imminent execution by guillotine, the sisters displayed remarkable serenity, singing hymns of praise and forgiveness as they processed through the streets to their deaths. Their final words were prayers for the Church, their persecutors, and the suffering people of France. Witnesses to their martyrdom were struck by the peace and joy that radiated from these women even in their final moments, reminding all that true freedom and peace come from God alone.
The Martyrs of Compiègne are honored today as powerful intercessors for those facing oppression, persecution, and fear. Their example reminds us that even in the face of hatred and violence, the human heart can remain free when it is rooted in the love of God.
Our Irish Blessing Oil dedicated to the Martyrs of Compiègne is prayerfully prepared in remembrance of their sacrifice and unwavering faith. Each bottle comes with a prayer card seeking their intercession—for courage in the face of adversity, for peace amidst suffering, and for fidelity to one’s calling, no matter the cost.
