Oil Dedicated to Martyrs of Daimiel
Faithful Witnesses in Persecution, Protectors of the Church, and Defenders of Peace
The Martyrs of Daimiel, a group of brave Trinitarian priests and brothers, bore witness to Christ’s love and truth during the violent persecution of Christians in Spain in the 20th century. In the summer of 1936, as civil unrest erupted during the Spanish Civil War, religious communities became targets of hatred and violence. The Trinitarian monastery in Daimiel, Spain, where these men lived, was no exception.
Rather than flee for safety, the Trinitarian martyrs chose to remain with their people, trusting in God’s providence and offering themselves as spiritual shepherds in a time of great darkness. Their days were marked by prayer, Eucharistic devotion, and joyful fraternity, even as the threat of death loomed over them.
On July 22, 1936, anti-Christian forces stormed the monastery. The priests and brothers were arrested and later executed solely for their faith and religious commitment. Their final words were prayers of forgiveness for their persecutors and declarations of loyalty to Christ and His Church. Their martyrdom echoes the courage of the early Christian martyrs, standing as a reminder that faith, hope, and charity endure even in the face of hatred.
Today, the Martyrs of Daimiel are venerated as heroes of the Church who defended their vocation with steadfast love. They are powerful intercessors for those facing persecution, for priests and religious under attack, and for all who strive to live their faith courageously in hostile environments.
Our Irish Blessing Oil dedicated to the Martyrs of Daimiel is prayerfully prepared in memory of their heroic sacrifice. Each bottle comes with a prayer card seeking their intercession—for courage amidst persecution, for peace in times of conflict, and for perseverance in living one’s faith with love and joy.
Lovingly prayed over by the team at A Blessed Call to Love.
May the Martyrs of Daimiel inspire us to love God above all things, to forgive those who harm us, and to live our lives as fearless witnesses to the Gospel, trusting that Christ’s love conquers even death itself.
