Oil Dedicated to St Adjutor (Patron for Swimmers)
Patron of Swimmers, Sailors, and Those Seeking Protection from the Storms of Life
St. Adjutor, a 12th-century knight of Normandy, France, lived a life marked by courage, perseverance, and deep faith. As a nobleman and Crusader, Adjutor faced many battles, yet it was in his captivity and miraculous escape that his legacy as the patron of swimmers and sailors was born.
Captured during the First Crusade, Adjutor was chained and imprisoned. Tradition tells us that, relying solely on God’s strength, he managed to break free from his chains and escape. In a miraculous moment of divine protection, Adjutor is said to have crossed a swiftly flowing river—whether by swimming or being divinely guided—escaping certain death. His deep trust in God amidst physical danger became a source of inspiration for many who face the literal and symbolic storms of life.
Returning home, Adjutor renounced his noble privileges and retired to a life of prayer and solitude as a hermit. He lived by the Seine River, where he continued to help others, prayed fervently, and interceded for those in danger, especially those at sea or facing treacherous waters. After his death, his reputation as a protector of swimmers, boatmen, and all travelers by water spread throughout Normandy and beyond.
Our Irish Blessing Oil dedicated to St. Adjutor is prayerfully prepared in honor of his trust in God’s saving power. Each bottle is accompanied by a prayer card seeking his intercession—for swimmers, sailors, lifeguards, and anyone who seeks protection from harm in water, as well as for those navigating the rough waters of life’s trials.
Lovingly prayed over by the team at A Blessed Call to Love. It serves as a reminder of God’s ability to rescue us from danger, sustain us through hardship, and calm the storms of our hearts.
May St. Adjutor’s story inspire you to face life’s waters—whether gentle or fierce—with courage, trust, and peace. And may his prayers help guide you safely through every challenge, back to the heart of God.
