Description

Oil Dedicated to St Alice of Schaerbeek

Model of Humble Suffering, Silent Joy, and Union with Christ the Eucharist

St. Alice of Schaerbeek, also known as Adelaide, was born in Belgium in the 13th century. From her youth, she was known for her gentle nature and devotion to God. She entered the Cistercian convent at La Cambre near Brussels, where she lived as a lay sister, quietly serving the community with a heart filled with love and humility.

During her life in the convent, Alice was struck by a severe illness, believed to have been leprosy, which gradually paralyzed her and confined her to isolation. Though her suffering was intense, Alice accepted her illness with remarkable peace and even joy. She saw her pain not as a punishment but as a precious way to unite herself more closely with the suffering Christ.

What made St. Alice’s life shine with even greater light was her deep devotion to the Holy Eucharist. As her illness prevented her from drinking the Precious Blood during Communion, she found her consolation in the belief that receiving even a portion of Christ in the Eucharist brought His entire presence into her heart. This spiritual understanding filled her with profound joy and peace, despite her physical sufferings.

St. Alice became a source of inspiration for her fellow sisters and many who visited her for spiritual guidance. Her quiet life of suffering, hidden from the world, became a radiant witness to the power of God’s grace in the midst of human frailty.

Our Irish Blessing Oil dedicated to St. Alice of Schaerbeek is prayerfully prepared in remembrance of her patient endurance and deep Eucharistic love. Each bottle comes with a prayer card asking for her intercession—for those suffering from illness, disability, or loneliness, and for all who seek to unite their sufferings with Christ in the Eucharist.

Lovingly prayed over by the team at A Blessed Call to Love. Offered as a spiritual source of comfort and encouragement, reminding us that even hidden suffering can become a beautiful offering to God.

May St. Alice inspire you to find peace in suffering, joy in hidden sacrifice, and hope in the healing love of Christ, present in the Blessed Sacrament.
