Oil Dedicated to St Anastasia of Sirmium (martyr)
Martyr for Christ, Patroness of Those Suffering Persecution, and Helper in Times of Despair
St. Anastasia of Sirmium, also known as Anastasia the Deliverer from Potions, was a courageous Christian martyr who lived during the fierce persecutions of the Roman Empire in the late 3rd and early 4th centuries. Born into a noble Roman family, Anastasia was secretly baptized and raised in the Christian faith, despite the dangerous times in which she lived. From an early age, she exhibited a deep compassion for those who suffered, especially prisoners and persecuted Christians.
After the death of her husband, who had opposed her faith, Anastasia devoted her life to caring for the imprisoned and tortured victims of persecution. She bravely brought them food, medicine, and comfort, risking her own safety to support them in their final hours. Her love for Christ and her neighbors earned her the title “Deliverer from Potions,” as she was also invoked against poison and harmful medicines.
Eventually, Anastasia herself was arrested for her faith. Refusing to deny Christ, she was subjected to brutal torture and ultimately martyred by being burned alive. Her martyrdom in Sirmium, present-day Serbia, stands as a witness to her unwavering courage, profound charity, and steadfast trust in God’s promises.
St. Anastasia’s feast has been celebrated in the Roman Canon of the Mass, a testament to her early and enduring veneration in the Church. She is a powerful intercessor for those who are suffering persecution for their faith, those in despair, and those facing physical and spiritual poisons in their lives.
Our Irish Blessing Oil dedicated to St. Anastasia of Sirmium is prayerfully prepared in remembrance of her heroic witness. Each bottle comes with a prayer card seeking her intercession—for courage in trials, protection from spiritual and physical harm, and strength for those who suffer for their beliefs.
Lovingly prayed over by the team at A Blessed Call to Love, this oil makes no claim of physical healing but is offered as a spiritual source of comfort, calling on the mercy of God through the intercession of this brave martyr.
May St. Anastasia inspire you to hold fast to your faith in difficult times and to bring Christ’s compassion and courage to those in need.
