Oil Dedicated to St Aquilina (An Angel Appeared to Her)
Young Martyr of Lebanon, Witness of Purity and Faith, Strengthened by an Angel
St. Aquilina of Byblos, Lebanon, lived in the 3rd century and is honored as one of the youngest martyrs of the early Church. Raised in a Christian family, Aquilina’s heart belonged completely to Christ from an early age. Even as a child, she boldly proclaimed her faith in Jesus, refusing to deny Him when faced with persecution.
At just 12 years old, Aquilina was arrested during the harsh reign of Emperor Diocletian, a time when Christians were cruelly persecuted. The governor tried to persuade her to abandon her faith, offering her comfort and riches. But this brave young girl, filled with the love of Christ, firmly declared that she would never worship false gods. She was tortured mercilessly, suffering beatings and humiliation. Tradition tells us that after a brutal beating, she was left for dead.
But God, in His mercy, sent an angel to comfort and heal her, giving her strength to face her final trial. When Aquilina awoke, she was filled with renewed courage and joy, prepared to give her life for the One she loved. She presented herself once again to her persecutors, who ordered her death by beheading. Her pure soul flew to heaven, where she is honored among the glorious martyrs.
St. Aquilina’s story is one of youthful courage, purity, and divine consolation. She is a powerful intercessor for young people, those facing trials in their faith, and anyone in need of heavenly strength during times of suffering.
