Oil Dedicated to St Drogo 8 (Patron for Ruptures) from A Blessed Call To Love, Ireland.
Saint Drogo, also known as Dreux or Drô, was a 12th-century Belgian hermit and patron saint of those whom society often marginalized. Born in 1105 in Epinoy, Belgium, he faced physical challenges from birth, including a deformity that left him with a hunched back. Despite his disability, Drogo possessed unwavering faith and a deep devotion to God.
Drogo’s life took a profound turn when he sought solace in the church and became a lay brother in the Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Médard in Sezanne, France. Despite his physical limitations, he undertook various tasks in the monastery, including caring for the sick and infirm. Drogo’s humility, compassion, and selflessness endeared him to his fellow monks and the local community.
His desire for solitude eventually led him to become a hermit, residing in a small cell near the church. Drogo lived an austere life, embracing poverty and devoting himself entirely to prayer and contemplation. Despite his reclusive existence, people sought his counsel and spiritual guidance.
Saint Drogo’s reputation for holiness grew, and he became known as a miracle worker, particularly in healing the sick. He possessed the gift of bilocation, enabling him to be in two places at once. This remarkable ability further enhanced his reputation as a saintly figure.
After living as a hermit for many years, Saint Drogo died on April 16, 1186. His veneration as a saint began soon after his death, and his feast day is celebrated on April 16th. Saint Drogo’s life serves as a testament to the power of faith, humility, and compassion, and he continues to inspire and intercede for those who face physical challenges and adversity.
