Oil Dedicated to St Fursa
St Fursa from A Blessed Call To Love, Ireland.
Saint Fursa (also known as Fursey or Fursy) was an Irish monk who lived in the 6th and 7th centuries. He was born into a noble family in Ireland, and as a young man, he joined the monastery of St. Brendan in Clonfert, where he became a monk.
Fursa was known for his piety and his ability to perform miracles. He is said to have had a vision of heaven and hell, which deeply affected him and inspired him to devote his life to the service of God. He also had a special devotion to the Virgin Mary, and he would often pray to her for guidance.
In 630 AD, Fursa left Ireland with his brothers, Saints Foillan and Ultan, to evangelize the people of England. They landed in East Anglia, where they welcomed by the local king, Sigebert. Fursa and his brothers established a monastery at Burgh Castle, which became a center of learning and evangelization.
Fursa continued to perform miracles throughout his life, and he revered as a holy man. He known for his compassion and his ability to heal the sick. He also credited with driving out demons and even raising the dead.
Fursa died in 650 AD, and he buried at the monastery he had established in Burgh Castle. His relics later translated to France, where they venerated by the local people.
Today, Saint Fursa remembered as one of the great saints of Ireland. He often invoked for protection against evil spirits, and he also considered a patron of the mentally ill. His feast day celebrated on January 16th in the Catholic Church and on February 16th in the Eastern Orthodox Church.
