Oil Dedicated to St Philomena 7 (Patron of Infants)
Prayer:
Saint Philomena, beloved patroness of infants, we turn to you with hearts full of trust and hope. In your brief but powerful life, you exemplified unwavering faith and purity of heart. We seek your intercession on behalf of all infants, entrusting them to your loving care. Guard them from harm, both physical and spiritual, and surround them with the heavenly protection that you, in your innocence, experienced. Saint Philomena, advocate for the vulnerable, inspire us to cherish and protect the precious gift of life in its earliest stages. May your watchful presence be a source of comfort to parents and caregivers, and may the infants under your patronage thrive in health, happiness, and the love of God. Amen.
Scripture:
Isaiah 43:2
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”
St Philomena 7 (Patron of Infants) from A Blessed Call To Love, Ireland.
Saint Philomena, the Patron of Infants, is a beloved saint whose life and intercession have touched the hearts of countless faithful around the world. Although little is known about her early years, her remarkable story has inspired devotion and miracles since her discovery in the catacombs of Priscilla in Rome in the 19th century.
Legend has it that St. Philomena was a young Greek princess who dedicated her life to Christ. She refused to renounce her faith despite facing numerous trials and temptations. Philomena’s steadfastness caught the attention of Emperor Diocletian, who sought to force her into marriage. However, she chose to remain chaste and committed to her divine spouse, Jesus Christ.
Imprisoned and subjected to various tortures, including scourging and attempted drowning, St. Philomena remained resilient in her faith. Even when a powerful arrow failed to kill her, the Emperor ordered her beheading. On August 10, 304 AD, she received the crown of martyrdom at a tender age.
Her relics discovered in the catacombs, and soon after, miracles attributed to her intercession. Devotion to St. Philomena rapidly spread throughout Europe and beyond, earning her the reputation as the “Wonder Worker” due to the numerous miraculous healings and interventions attributed to her.
In particular, St. Philomena became widely venerated as the Patron of Babies. Many faithful parents have turned to her in times of need, seeking her intercession for the health, protection, and well-being of their children, especially infants. Her powerful presence and loving care have given solace to countless families, inspiring unwavering faith and hope.
Today, St. Philomena continues to be an advocate for babies and all who invoke her assistance. Her feast day celebrated on August 11th, a day to honor her unwavering devotion, martyrdom, and her miraculous intercessions. As the Patron of Babies, she reminds us of the importance of nurturing and protecting the most vulnerable among us. And she serves as a source of comfort and strength for those seeking the well-being of their little ones.
