Oil Dedicated to St Bernadette (Patron for the Sick) – Christmas Oil
St. Bernadette Soubirous was born in 1844 in Lourdes, France, into a poor but devout family. At the age of 14, while gathering firewood near the grotto of Massabielle, she experienced the first of 18 apparitions of the Virgin Mary. During these visions, Mary revealed herself as the “Immaculate Conception” and instructed Bernadette to pray, do penance, and dig a spring from which healing waters would flow.
Despite skepticism and challenges, Bernadette remained faithful and shared Mary’s message. The spring she uncovered became the site of countless healings and miracles, making Lourdes one of the most famous pilgrimage destinations in the world.
Bernadette later joined the Sisters of Charity in Nevers, where she lived humbly, often suffering from asthma and tuberculosis. She passed away in 1879 at the age of 35 and was canonized in 1933.
St. Bernadette is the patron saint of the sick and those suffering from physical ailments. Her connection to healing stems from the miraculous cures associated with the waters of Lourdes and her own experiences of illness and suffering.
People pray to St. Bernadette for strength, healing, and comfort in times of illness. Her story reminds us of God’s care for the weak and suffering and the power of faith and humility.
