Oil Dedicated to St Drogo (Patron against Ruptures) – Christmas Oil
St. Drogo was born around 1105 in the region of Flanders (now part of Belgium). From a young age, he felt a calling to a religious life and eventually became a hermit. He lived in solitude in the Belgian countryside, dedicating his life to prayer, fasting, and penance. His deep faith and commitment to God led him to endure a life of suffering and self-sacrifice.
St. Drogo is perhaps best known for his physical affliction. He was reportedly struck with a deforming illness that caused him to experience a disfigured appearance, making him an outcast in society. Despite this, he continued to live in humility and dedication to God, never seeking fame or recognition for his suffering.
He was also known for his charity, caring for the poor and sick, and was devoted to spreading God’s love through his actions. St. Drogo died in 1186, and his feast day is celebrated on April 16th. He is venerated for his piety and willingness to endure hardship for the sake of his faith.
St. Drogo is the patron saint against ruptures and other bodily ailments. A rupture, often a hernia or similar condition, causes pain and weakness in the body, and St. Drogo’s intercession is sought by those suffering from these physical issues. His own physical suffering in life has made him a symbol of endurance and patience in times of bodily affliction.
He is also a patron of the sick, particularly those who feel isolated or cast out because of their conditions, as he himself lived much of his life in physical pain and social exclusion.
