St. Pius X also promoted the practice of frequent reception of Holy Communion, including allowing children to receive the Eucharist at an earlier age. He lowered the age for receiving First Holy Communion from around the age of 12 to around the age of 7, believing that children could develop a personal relationship with Christ at an earlier stage.
