Oil Dedicated to St Rene Goupil
St Rene Goupil is one of the seven martyrs of the North American continent. As a young man, he trained as a surgeon in Orleans in France. However, he longed to join the Jesuit order and entered the order as a novice. Unfortunately, due to his deafness, he was not allowed to finish taking his studies and withdrew.
Still wanting to serve God, he subsequently volunteered as a lay missionary and was sent to Quebec in 1640. While on a mission to the Huron people with the Jesuit Father, Isaac Jogues, the missionaries were captured and tortured for many days. St. Rene Goupil’s faith never wavered and he spread the Word of God by teaching his tormentors the Sign of the Cross. He was killed by a blow to the head with a tomahawk.
St. Rene Goupil was canonized on June 30, 1930 and his Feast Day falls on October 19. Because of his medical work in New France, he has become the Patron Saint of anesthetists.
We are a Catholic community centered on Christ. This means we worship God and we serve our neighbors in need. The two go together as a response to the greatest commandment to love God and love one another
