Amato Ronconi, also known as St. Amatus of San Severino, was an Italian Roman Catholic saint and a lay brother of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin. He was born on October 13, 1226, in Saludecio, a town in the province of Rimini, Italy.
Ronconi grew up in a wealthy family but chose to live a simple life dedicated to serving God. He became a Franciscan tertiary at a young age and spent most of his life serving the poor and the sick. He was known for his deep faith, his humility, and his devotion to God.
In 1267, Ronconi joined the newly founded Order of Friars Minor Capuchin as a lay brother. He worked as a cook, porter, and gardener, and his simple and humble way of life inspired many to follow in his footsteps. He also devoted himself to the care of the sick, especially those suffering from the plague, which was rampant in Italy at that time.
Ronconi’s life marked by numerous miracles. Including the healing of the sick and the multiplication of food during times of scarcity. He also known for his gift of prophecy. His ability to read the hearts of those who came to him for spiritual guidance.
St. Amato Ronconi died on October 8, 1292, in San Severino Marche, a town in the province of Macerata, Italy. He canonized as a saint by Pope Benedict XIV on June 24, 1746. And his feast day celebrated on October 8th.
