St Castulus Healing Oil 2 (Patron invoked against Erysipelas)
St Castulus Healing Oil 2 (Patron invoked against Erysipelas) from A Blessed Call To Love, Ireland.
Saint Castulus, also known as Saint Castor, is a Christian saint who is venerated as the patron saint invoked against erysipelas, a bacterial skin infection. He is believed to have lived in the 3rd century AD in what is now modern-day Italy.
According to tradition, Castulus was a Roman soldier who converted to Christianity after witnessing the faith of his fellow soldiers. He was known for his piety and his devotion to the Christian faith, even in the face of persecution.
During the reign of Emperor Diocletian, Castulus was arrested and imprisoned for his faith. While in prison, he continued to proclaim his belief in Christ and to minister to his fellow prisoners. He was eventually martyred for his faith, and is believed to have been beheaded.
In addition to his association with erysipelas, Saint Castulus is also venerated as the patron saint of cattle and horses. This association comes from the tradition that Castulus was a horse breeder before he converted to Christianity, and that he used his skills as a horseman to spread the Christian faith.
Today, Saint Castulus is revered as a model of Christian faith and devotion, as well as a powerful intercessor for those suffering from erysipelas. His feast day is celebrated on April 26th in the Western Church.
