Saint Fiacre is a Christian saint who is venerated as the patron saint of cab drivers, gardeners, and those suffering from venereal disease. He believed to have lived in the 7th century AD in Ireland.
According to tradition, Fiacre was a hermit who lived in solitude in the forest, devoting his life to prayer and meditation. He known for his piety and his healing abilities, and many people sought him out for spiritual and physical guidance.
Eventually, Fiacre left his hermitage and traveled to France, where he welcomed by the local bishop and given a plot of land to cultivate. He used his skills as a gardener to create a beautiful garden, which became a place of pilgrimage for many people seeking his healing powers.
Over time, a small community grew up around Fiacre’s garden. And he became known as a spiritual leader and a source of inspiration for many. He believed to have died in France around the year 670 AD. And venerated as a saint soon after his death.
Today, Saint Fiacre remembered as a model of Christian faith and devotion. As well as a powerful intercessor for cab drivers, gardeners, and those suffering from venereal disease. His feast day celebrated on September 1st in the Western Church, and on August 30th in the Eastern Church.
Saint Fiacre’s association with cab drivers comes from the tradition that he often seen riding in a cart or chariot. Which became associated with the profession of cab driving. Cab drivers often invoke Saint Fiacre for protection and guidance on the road. And his image often displayed in taxicabs and other forms of transportation.
