Description

Oil dedicated to St John Paul 11 on prayer cloth

The Oil dedicated to St John Paul 11 on prayer cloth is dedicated to our recent charismatic Polish Pope.

Karol J. Wojtyla was born outside Cracow, on May 18, 1920.

In 1942, he began courses in the clandestine seminary of Cracow.  After the Second World War, he continued his studies in the major seminary of Cracow.  It had re-opened after the war.  Karol studied in the faculty of theology of the Cracow University, until his priestly ordination there on November 1, 1946.

In 1948 he returned to Poland and was vicar of various parishes in Cracow as well as chaplain for the university students until 1951.  Later he became a professor of moral philosophy and social ethics in the major seminary of Cracow and in the Faculty of Philosophy at the Catholic University of Lubin (where he became the Director of the Chair of Ethics and lectured for 25 years until his election for the Pope in 1978).

Appointed Cardinal

On January 13, 1964, he was nominated Archbishop of Cracow by Pope Paul VI  Also, Paul VI made him a cardinal in June 26, 1967.

Cardinal Wojtyla took part in Vatican Council II.  He made an important contribution to the elaboration of the Constitution Gaudium et spes.  Also, he  participated in all the assemblies of the Synod of Bishops.

Pope John Paul II completed 95 pastoral visits outside of Italy and 142 within Italy. In addition, as Bishop of Rome he visited 301 of the 334 parishes.

He was the 2nd longeest serving pope in modern history.  Pope Pius 1X served for nearly 32 years from 1846 to 1878.  Also, John Paul II was the first non-Italian pope since the Dutch Pope Adrian 6th who served from 1522 to 1523.

Tradition of oils

The tradition of anointing with sacred oil is very old indeed. It is used in sacraments and also as a devotional practice. The sick person applies the oil and blesses themselves.  As they do so, they are asked to pray to whomever the oil is dedicated to. The Irish blessings oils do not have miraculous power.  It is God who has the power to heal.  Applying the oil while praying are important ways for us to express our faith in God’s power. Moreover, by doing so we place our trust in God.

The Irish Blessings oils are dedicated to the Holy Spirit, Our Lady and the saints. The oils come through prayer.  They are placed on their designated altars for a period of prayer before being sent out.  The oils are of therapeutic grade.
The oil is presented on a prayer cloth enclosed in a card.  The small card goes out with the larger card that has the prayer for healing on the inside.  The cards are personalised for the saint to whom the oil is dedicated to.
