Angela Iacobellis Healing Oil

Description

The Angela Iacobellis healing oil is dedicated to the 20th century Italian teenager. Angela (1948 – 1961) is currently being considered for sainthood by the Roman Catholic Church.

Angela was born in Rome on October 16, 1948. Also, she was baptized on October 31 in the Basilica of Saint Peter.

She received her First Communion and Confirmation on June 29, 1955, in Naples. Her family had moved when she was five. Angela was a normal girl with her family, friends, and at school. However, her affinity for the Christian religion grew with age. Also, she became intrigued by the Sacraments. Angela embraced her family members when they returned from receiving Holy Communion. She said it was like hugging Jesus.

According to church officials, she had a spiritual and religious balance rare for her age. Also. she read the Gospels and recited the Holy Rosary. She said “We must give the first place to God”.

Visited Poor Clares convent

She spent her summer holidays in the basilicas of Saint Francis and Saint Clare in Assisi. She was devoted to these saints. In addition, in these periods she frequented the convent of the Poor Clares. Angela became friends with the nuns and the abbess. This is evidenced by the many letters she received from the abbess. Even after her death she wrote to give comfort to her parents.

At the age of 11, Angela developed leukemia. For a long time, she was not informed about the severity of the disease. She calmly accepted the treatment when she was told that her illness was not curable. Angela consciously accepted God’s will. She expressed all of herself in prayer and in conversation with the Lord.

Her leukemia gets worse

Her worsening leukemia made her detach herself from her life. The final phase was excruciating for her family. She was passed from one clinical analysis to another, from one transfusion to another. Angela had an intestinal obstruction that complicated the prognosis.

The administration of oxygen did not improve the situation. Angela died around 10 p.m. on March 27, 1961.

Cause of beatification and canonization

Numerous reports of people, who through her intercession, claimed to have received graces and favours. The fame of young Angela has spread throughout Italy. Also, on 11 June 1991 the Holy See granted the process for her beatification. Pope John Paul II declared her a Servant of God.

On 21 November 1997 Angela’s body was moved from the family chapel to the Church of San Giovanni.

Tradition of oils

The tradition of anointing with sacred oil is very old indeed. It is used in sacraments and also as a devotional practice. The sick person applies the oil and blesses themselves. As they do so, they are asked to pray to whomever the oil is dedicated to. The Irish blessings oils do not have miraculous power. It is God who has the power to heal. Applying the oil while praying are important ways for us to express our faith in God’s power. Moreover, by doing so we place our trust in God.

The bottles of oils going out are accompanied with a prayer card. In addition, they are personalised for the saint to whom the oil is dedicated to.
