The Holy Spirit healing oil

The Holy Spirit healing oil is dedicated to the Third Person of the Holy Trinity.

Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost is a term found in English translations of the Bible that are understood differently among the Abrahamic religions. Holy Spirit is stated to be “a realm beyond the ability of words to properly convey. In addition, it must be experienced, realized, kindled within like a holy fire.”

For the large majority of Christians, The Holy Spirit is the third divine person of The Trinity: The “Triune God” manifested as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; each aspect itself being God. Two symbols from the New Testament canon are associated with the Holy Spirit in Christian iconography: a winged dove, and tongues of fire.

Each depiction of the Holy Spirit arose from different historical accounts in the Gospel narratives; the first being at the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River where the Holy Spirit was said to descend in the form of a dove as the voice of God the Father spoke as described in Matthew, Mark, and Luke; the second being from the day of Pentecost, fifty days after Pascha where the descent of the Holy Spirit came upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ, as tongues of fire as described in the Acts of the Apostles.2:1–31. Also, called “the unveiled epiphany of God”, the Holy Spirit is the one who enabled the proclamation of Jesus Christ, and the power that brought conviction of faith.

Tradition of oils

The tradition of anointing with sacred oil is very old indeed. It is used in sacraments and also as a devotional practice. The sick person applies the oil and blesses themselves. As they do so, they are asked to pray to whomever the oil is dedicated to. The Irish blessings oils do not have miraculous power. It is God who has the power to heal. Applying the oil while praying is important way for us to express our faith in God’s power. Moreover, by doing so we place our trust in God.

The Irish Blessings oils are dedicated to the Holy Spirit, Our Lady, and the saints. The oils come through prayer. They are placed on their designated altars for a period of prayer before being sent out.  The oils are of therapeutic grade.
The bottles of oils going out are accompanied by a prayer card. In addition, they are personalized for the saint to whom the oil is dedicated to.
Luke 10; 33-34. The Good Samaritan
“But a Samaritan traveler who came upon him was moved with compassion at the sight. He approached the victim, poured oil and wine over his wounds and bandaged them”.
