Description
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, born in 1774 in New York City, the first native-born American to canonized a saint. After the early death of her husband, Elizabeth faced many hardships but found strength in converting to the Catholic faith. Deeply committed to her new faith, she dedicated herself to serving others through education and charity. In 1809, she founded the first Catholic school in the United States, and soon after, established the Sisters of Charity, the first American religious community for women.
Her work laid the foundation for the Catholic school system across the nation, and her life remains a shining example of perseverance, faith, and love. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton’s dedication to the education and care of the poor, especially children, continues to inspire people today to serve with compassion and courage. Through her humble service, she showed how one person’s faith and kindness can impact generations.
